The Mission Ends, Training Begins
Jump into this final installment of Medal of Honor's Military Monday. It's a good one.
This is the final military Monday article that myself and members of Off Duty Gamers are providing for Medal of Honor as it is time for the OPTEMPO to slow and training to begin for the next operation.
Traditionally the military runs in cycles, where the active phase is followed by downtime and maintenance and then into a training phase and ultimately back to active once again. We find ourselves coming off the downtime and its now back to training for the next mission. There's a lot of training to do and plenty of places to train.
Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam is going to let us look back on a very hard chapter in American military history. Through its grit and burned jungles we'll honor those who fought a war with the enemy, themselves and even those at home. We will trip into the future military soon with Crysis 2 where we'll see where the limits of imagination meet todays prototypes and concepts. We can see Battlefield 3 off in the distance and while its details are not yet known, there's a fair bit of history in itself to build upon. There's even talk that the future of Medal of Honor will take us to [REDACTED FOR OPERATIONAL SECURITY]. It seems no matter where we look, the fingerprint of military service is all over the gaming industry.
Over the last few months we've offered opinions, tactics, details and stories that we hope you've enjoyed. The comments from readers have been interesting as the twists and turns of the development of a game changed the point of view and attitudes of those around us. Our goal at all times though has been to honor military service, respect those who have and are doing the job of keeping us safe and maybe even get a laugh or two out of those around us. If we made you argue, debate and think then we've done our job because just as the military is active, so are its stories and its not always about agreements or being a mindless drone. This military is a thinking military that knows when the debate ends and the actions as a unit begin.
The Medal of Honor franchise has always held itself to the standard of 'what would the servicemen think'. This is the core of how I see the role that we military gamers must play. To always hold this franchise and any other that would seek to invoke the names of our hallowed battles, our branches of service or those we've lost is in the best keeping of the military and is our job to protect.
It has been an honor for us to have been asked to speak on the behalf of the military community. We salute those who have served, are serving or are hearing the call to do something greater than yourself. To you, we owe our gratitude and eternal thanks.
